Guarantee your dry, heater or reefer equipment supply!


We are pleased to introduce new priority equipment allocation and empty delivery as part of our new Guaranteed Intermodal Equipment Program. The goal of the program is to better service our customers who have urgent shipments in high demand or constricted markets. Effective immediately, equipment orders can be guaranteed at all intermodal origin points at which CN supplies equipment (dry, heater, or reefer). **not applicable to EMHU equipment

How it works:


  • The new Guarantee Equipment Program allows you to reserve and guarantee intermodal equipment for next-day service as well as same-day service, when available.
  • Rates provided in the Guaranteed Equipment Program are dynamic, and origin-destination specific; there is no flat rate surcharge.
  • Within CN’s daily allocation plan a limited number of dry, heater, and reefer containers are reserved specifically for the Guarantee Equipment Program.
  • The program is designed for situations that demand immediate equipment, outside of regular equipment ordering, and does not affect your regular contract and equipment allocation.

Program Advantages:


  • 53’ intermodal containers (dry, heater, or reefer) are guaranteed for next-day or same-day service.
  • Equipment allocation and empty delivery are executed as priority.
  • Reliability of equipment supply versus having to rely on last minute spot rates for over-the-road trucking.
  • Peace-of-mind to get product moving to your customers either the same day or the next day.

5 Easy steps to get started:


  1. Contact your account manager, or our sales center, to get started and obtain rates.
  2. To make a guaranteed reservation, in CN ONE, under the Intermodal Order tool go to Order Wizard and in the Allocation Notes box, please enter “GUARANTEE REQUESTED – # UNIT”, then submit. Please change the # to match the number of units required.
  3. You will then receive an order confirmation email.
  4. Please immediately forward to the Equipment Guarantee email stating that you have agreed to the rate provided to you by your Account Manager or CN Sales Center
    IMPORTANT NOTE: If you require SAME-DAY GUARANTEE, please add **Same-day Guarantee Request** In the Subject Line of the Email before forwarding it. By forwarding this email to CN, you are agreeing to the Guarantee Equipment Rate, as stated in the confirmation email.
  5. Cut-off for guaranteed equipment reservation orders is noon Eastern Time for the following day’s orders. Please ensure our Guaranteed Equipment team receives your email on time for consideration.
