Strengthening Our Ties
With Indigenous Communities

Acknowledgement
At CN, we respectfully acknowledge that our railway was built and continues to be operated on many traditional territories and treaty areas of Indigenous peoples. CN’s network spans nearly 20,000 miles across Turtle Island (North America). We operate within or adjacent to nearly 230 reserve lands of more than 120 First Nations and Métis communities in Canada and 7 tribal reservations in the United States. We are grateful for the privilege of working and residing on these lands. We recognize and honour the original people who continue to serve as the traditional stewards of the land.

INDIGENOUS RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN

CN’s Indigenous Vision Adopted in 2013
Our vision is to develop respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with all Indigenous peoples, while ensuring service to our customers. We want to be recognized by key stakeholders, including customers and governments, as having a sound approach to engaging with Indigenous communities. Our overarching goal is to have sustainable partnerships with Indigenous peoples across the CN network.

This vision rests upon five foundational pillars developed in collaboration with Indigenous communities:
CN’s Commitment

We are committed to strengthening ties, cultivating relationships, and creating economic opportunities with Indigenous communities as we work toward reconciliation. This commitment aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as well as our Indigenous Vision and our diversity and inclusion mindset.

CN’s Reconciliation Journey
Our Indigenous relations journey has been marked by various milestones, challenges and achievements over the years, and is still a work in progress. Hover over the years to learn more.
Moving Goods Safely and Responsibly in Your Community

We are actively engaged with the communities where we operate, partnering with them for everyone’s benefit. We strive to safeguard our employees, assets, customers’ goods, neighbouring communities and environments – always.

Indigenous Relations Stories
Our Indigenous Relations Team
Our Indigenous Relations logo has been inspired by the relationships CN maintains with all Indigenous peoples in Canada. The First Nations are represented by the eagle feather, the Métis by the infinity symbol and the Inuit by the Inukshuk. The three symbols together with the CN logo show the Company's commitment to developing and maintaining respectful and sustainable relationships with Indigenous peoples across our network. CN worked with the University of Winnipeg's Indigenous Studies group to create the logo.
