Calgary Logistics Park Smart Terminal

Improving Capacity and Service Levels

As part of the project, we have redesigned the Calgary Logistics Park yard, to elevate our capacity and customer service levels, while maintaining our priority for safety. CN has redesigned the Calgary Logistics Park (CLP) Terminal to improve the following key areas:

Storage Capacity

Increase the total container ground count and the maximum number of containers handled per day.

Storage Locations

Strategically designate storage locations to improve access and facilitate day to day operations.

Layout

Improve zone accuracy, consistency of aisle width and create a uniform naming convention to provide visibility for container locations and maximize productivity & fluidity.

These changes will help our carter community quickly locate containers, resulting in improved service time and reduced congestion while improving the overall experience.

Why are you making changes to the Calgary Logistics Park Intermodal Terminal?

At CN, we are committed to efficiency, safety, and good corporate citizenship. To ensure efficiencies across our network, we continually evaluate our infrastructure and operations and seek opportunities that will benefit our customers, employees, supply chain partners and the community at large.

What are we changing at the Calgary Logistics Park Intermodal Terminal?

The Smart Terminal transformation includes multiple streams of work that are focused on achieving the objectives of increasing capacity, customer service and productivity. Among the changes are:

Slight changes to naming conventions
New storage standards
New yard signs to direct carters

When will changes be implemented?

In Q3 2023, we implemented the new yard design concepts of nomenclature, storage standards and yard signs. In Q4 2023, we will implement our new terminal operating system. Carters will receive more detailed container location information on their j-slips.

What are Aisles?

Aisles are the roads adjacent to the train tracks or in between storage locations.

Aisles are numbered and include directional signs that will direct vehicles to tracks and aisles.

What are the new yard signs at the Calgary Logistics Park Intermodal Terminal?

We have installed the following yard signs to help our customers navigate through the Calgary Logistics Park Intermodal Terminal:

Zone Signs - help identify where you are.
Directional Signs - help navigate the yard, highlighting locations such as aisles, exits, and storage areas from in-gate.
Traffic Signs - Standard MTO traffic signs.
