CN Safety Week 2025: Driven by Safety, Powered by People

From June 9 to 13, CN employees came together to reflect on one shared priority — making it home safe, every single day. Our third annual Safety Week combined meaningful conversation, employee recognition, and team connection across the entire network.

Rolling Conversations Across the Network

This year’s Safety Week launched with the Whistle Stop Tour, bringing CN leaders to terminals, yards, and stations from Prince Rupert to Chicago and onto Montreal. With 31 official stops and many more informal gatherings, employees had the chance to speak directly with senior leadership about how safety shows up on the ground — and how we can continue to improve together.

Whether it was early morning safety briefings or informal conversations over a coffee or BBQ lunch, the tour was a reminder that every voice matters in powering a safe railway.

Celebrating Our Safety Champions

On June 10, nearly 150 guests gathered at CN’s Homewood Campus in Illinois for a special recognition ceremony. The event honoured individuals and teams who exemplify what it means to lead by example when it comes to safety:

  • Lifetime Leaders in Safety — career railroaders with more than 30 years injury-free
  • Leaders in Safety — teams who set the bar with record low injury rates
  • Heroic Act Leaders — employees who demonstrated courage and quick thinking in emergency situations
  • Top Health & Safety Committee — groups making measurable improvements in their local safety environments
  • Extra Mile Champion — a colleague who goes above and beyond in exemplifying daily leadership, mentorship, and care in building a strong safety culture.

"Safety to me is personal, it’s getting everyone home to their families the way they were given to the railroad, while enabling them to make a good living for their families and reap those benefits." says Mark Grubbs, Vice-President, Safety and Environment

"Safety is of the utmost importance. Be mindful of everything you do." says Leslie Grzesiak, Locomotive Engineer and Lifetime Leader in Safety with 50 years injury-free

Keeping the Momentum Going

Safety Week may only come once a year, but the engagement it sparks — and the commitment it reinforces — continues year-round. From the newest conductor to the most seasoned signal maintainer, each of us has a role to play in looking out for one another.
