Dear valued customer,

I am thrilled to be starting my work as Chief Marketing Officer. It’s wonderful to be back in CN’s Sales and Marketing team, leveraging the best network in the industry and collaborating with you to deliver for your business. As the hardships of winter give way to the more favourable operating conditions of spring, I would like to provide an update on CN’s progress and priorities.

I’m certain you’ll agree the past two years presented some significant challenges in North America and around the world. The impact of the pandemic, the effects of climate change, and shifting trade flows have dramatically affected the resilience of supply chains, management of inventory, and availability of workforce. More recently, natural disasters ─ including devastating wildfires and floods in B.C., droughts across the Prairies, as well as hurricanes and tornados in the U.S. ─ have all been difficult. Nevertheless, as an important enabler of supply chains, it’s never been more important for CN to deliver.

That’s why we are concentrating on running a scheduled railway, with a focus on velocity. This approach will help us to deliver your freight more consistently and drive the reliability you need. My primary focus is to work very closely with CN's operating team so that we are fully aligned to deliver the service you expect. CN is also intently focused on hiring in key areas to support your business.

In the coming months, I will keep you up to date on other important developments including details of CN’s 2022 capital expenditure plans. Of particular interest is that CN is in the final stages of acquiring boxcars which will be added to our fleet starting in early 2023.

I look forward to working closely with you, to learn more about your markets and industries, and how CN can continue to enable strong and sustainable growth for your company.

Thank you for your business and support.

Doug MacDonald
