New Transload Partnership Opens More Possibilities for Regional Industries

A new connection to CN’s network is already being put to work in northwestern New Brunswick.

Third-party transload partners can unlock rail access in regions where local industries may be close to the network but not directly connected to it. That’s the opportunity now taking shape near Grand Falls, New Brunswick, where CN has started to serve the facility.

Serving Northwestern New Brunswick, Northern Maine and Eastern Quebec, the facility is already welcoming agriculture and energy customers. Beyond serving regional needs, it opens new opportunities to reach markets across North America and international trade gateways through CN's three-coast network.

Bridging a Regional Access Gap

AD Gagnon Transload Services’ investment in a new transload facility reflects a strong belief in the region’s growth potential. With deep local experience and land strategically located along CN’s mainline, the team saw an opportunity to create infrastructure that could support a wide range of existing industries and help attract new supply chain activity.

They also saw a clear logistics gap: businesses without their own siding had limited options to tap into the long-haul advantages of rail. AD Gagnon Transload Services helps close that gap by creating a shared point where goods can move between truck and rail.

The facility gives shippers more flexibility in how they design their supply chains, using truck service for shorter regional moves and rail for longer distances where it can offer a cost advantage. Located just three kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway and directly on CN’s mainline, AD Gagnon Transload Services creates a practical gateway between regional roads and CN’s broader North American network and tri-coastal reach.

Transload Capabilities Built for a Range of Industries

Built as a multi-commodity transload, AD Gagnon Transload Services can support very different supply chains. Greenergy, an international fuel supplier and distributor is among the first customers putting those capabilities to work.

The site offers:

Capacity for up to 106 railcars for loading, unloading and storage

Three-times-weekly rail service with switching performed on site

Multi-commodity handling, including liquid bulk, dry bulk and dangerous goods

Multiple railcar types, including tank cars, boxcars, gondolas, flatcars and centre-beam cars

That flexibility creates opportunities across many of the industries that drive the regional economy, from forest products and agriculture to energy, construction materials and other bulk commodities. Whether moving raw materials into the region or finished products to customers farther afield, AD Gagnon Transload Services gives businesses another way to connect their local operations with broader markets.

Growth Through Third-Party Transload Partnerships

AD Gagnon Transload Services is one example of how CN’s Business Development team works with third-party partners to expand access to rail and support long-term regional growth. These relationships are built around shared value: partners invest, serve customers and help create new access points to the network, while CN provides operational support and access to broader markets through its rail network.

For that collaboration to succeed over time, priorities also need to align. Safety, service, customer experience and a sound business case all matter. CN’s interest is not simply in opening new access points, but in helping strong third-party partners build sustainable businesses that can grow alongside the network.
