From June 15 to 19, CN’s annual Safety Week rolled out across the network, a dedicated time for all railroaders to come together and renew their shared commitment to Going Home Safe. From coast to coast to coast, employees came together to celebrate safety leadership and recognize the people and teams who make our railroad safer every shift, every day.

CN leaders travelled aboard the Safety Week train across the Western Region, from Vancouver to Winnipeg, connecting with employees along the way. Over coffee, pizza or a BBQ lunch, employees had the chance to speak directly with senior leadership about how to power a safe railway – and how we can continue to improve together.

From Memphis to Melville to Moncton, and many points in between and beyond, local Safety Week events throughout the network brought employees together to renew their commitment to eliminating fatalities, reducing injuries and illnesses, and preventing catastrophic events. “Safety Week is a good reminder of what we need to do to keep safe while working. It’s important for everyone, from new hires to experienced employees,” says Conductor Zach Biblow, who worked the grill at the well-attended event in Melville.

In the Atlantic Region, the power of teamwork was seen across the board. “We brought team members together from Transportation, Engineering, Mechanical, Intermodal and Work Equipment, creating a great mix of perspectives and shared experiences about safety, and all the reasons why Going Home Safe is so important. It was very impactful,” says Nicole Lurette, Operations Officer in Moncton.

One of those recipients was Anthony Martins from British Columbia, who recently retired as a Locomotive Engineer after more than 35 years of injury-free service. “We looked out for each other. That’s the real secret to safety at CN. It’s your railroad family, the people standing next to you making sure you go home to your family at the end of the shift,” said Anthony, who shared moving reflections from his career at the ceremony.
