CN Railroader in the Community Krista Timmermans and her daughter, Autumn, have always shared a passion for animals, and they’ve been volunteering together at the South Wood County Humane Society (SWCHS) for several years.

“It's always good to give back to your community,” says Krista, an engineering clerk in Marshfield, WI. “We enjoy walking the dogs and helping out.”

Krista’s volunteer work with both the SWCHS and its wildlife counterpart, Fierce Hearts, have qualified for CN Railroaders in the Community grants. Autumn was eligible for a grant, too.

“CN’s donation pays for all their antibiotics for their spring rescues, which is awesome,” notes Krista. “It also helps buy food, kitty litter, cleaning supplies and dog beds.”

Beth Peabody, the SWCHS’ Executive Director, says the mother-and-daughter team’s work has immense value. “We rely on volunteers to help us care for unwanted and abandoned pets. Without their help, we would not be able to afford to give our animals the best care possible,” she says.
