Growing up watching his father volunteer for the Valemount Volunteer Fire Department, Everett Craig couldn’t wait to turn 18 and get involved.
“Coming from a small town of 800 people, everyone knows each other, so helping out feels natural,” says Everett, an Engineering Foreman in Valemount, B.C. who joined CN in 2011.
Everett spends 100 hours each year on-call or training. Grants from CN mean his fire department can pay for tools and equipment used in advanced training.
“In order for firefighters to enter a burning building and do fire suppression from the inside, you have to have live burn training,” he explains. “Without this facility, the department would spend thousands sending everyone out of town to train. It’s very heartwarming that CN gives to charities that their employees care about.”
