Co-Op and Internship Programs

Co-op and internship programs are an important recruiting channel for CN because they help us identify high-potential prospective employees.
During their term, students are busy working on quality, challenging, and meaningful assignments. These assignments provide you the opportunity to become familiar with our organization, work style and corporate culture, while allowing us to determine if you would be a good fit on a permanent basis.
What is a co-op program?
Co-op programs are a partnership between universities/colleges and industry that provide a win-win situation for everyone involved. As a student, you have the opportunity to gain practical work experience, while getting paid and remaining enrolled in your degree program. These assignments often provide student with a leading edge when entering the workforce.
How it Works
We have a centralized, well-coordinated process for bringing students into IT. Managers who wish to bring a student on board simply make their needs known to our People Services department, who then manage the entire process with the participating universities. Managers have access to all potential candidates regardless of what school they attend, and universities have a single point of contact with CN IT.
Co-op/intern program benefits:
- Enriches your academic program
- Helps fund your educational pursuit
- Encourages you to complete your studies
- Offers you insights into future employment opportunities at CN
- Helps you evaluate your career options
- Gives you opportunities to learn about the railroad transportation world
- Provides valuable work experience while developing and improving your employability
