Export Reservation Request

Below are the requirements for making export reservation requests at CNs intermodal terminals.

Montreal and Brampton Terminals

All North American, domestic and genset service traffic need an export reservation if delivered by a non-CN driver to Montreal and Brampton intermodal terminals to guarantee a slot on the train.  For regular steamship traffic please make a gate appointment, and your train reservation will be handled automatically by CN.

All other terminals

An export reservation is required for loads and empties originating at all CN Intermodal terminals.

Making a reservation

To make a reservation, use CN's eBusiness tool, Reservation Request, which enables customers, who ship export containers on intermodal trains, to:

  • Get an instantaneous, confirmed train slot reservation on the web - no more need to phone, fax or email.
  • Manage your CN slot reservations – browse by station, container number, container type, date and time.
  • Search and export existing reservation requests to a MS Excel spreadsheet.
  • Send an email to yourself of all confirmed reservation requests.

What you need to know:

  • One reservation per container is required.
  • Customers require a valid export reservation and booking number before arriving at the in-gate.
  • Customers may in-gate a dry export load only within the effective period of the export reservation.
  • Reservations may be cancelled without penalty until 10:00 the day prior to the reservation day.
