Port of Prince Rupert Container Terminal has been chosen as the site of an ultra-modern, high-capacity North American container facility. The new container terminal is operated by Maher Terminals, one of the world's largest, independent, multi-user container terminal operators and is a leader in the development of innovative container management systems.

  • Phase I, now completed, boasts 17 meters water depth at the berth, 44 meters water depth at the channel and a capacity of 500,000 TEUs.
  • Phase II will be developed on 150 acres of land and will benefit from two 1,300-foot berths, will be equipped with six additional cranes and will have a capacity of 2,000,000 TEUs.

Container yard:

  • Fully grounded operation
  • Storage: four containers high and 7,000 TEU footprint
  • 18 reach stackers
  • 40 yard tractors

Buildings and ancillary facilities:

  • Equipment maintenance and repair shop
  • Equipment parking areas
  • Fully customs-compliant operations centre

Berthing area:

  • One 1,295-foot berth with a range of 1,200 to 12,500 TEU vessels
  • Three dock gantries – super-post-Panamax, with lift capacity of 65 metric tons at 22 containers wide

Rail yard:

  • Total pad trackage: 12,500 feet, seven pad tracks, and 1,800 feet length
  • Total storage trackage: 4,600 feet, six storage tracks, and 800 feet length
  • Additional tracks available in Prince Rupert area

The Port of Prince Rupert Container Terminal will move containers filled with many different products, including pulp, lumber, grain, paper, logs, coal, sulphur, iron ore, pipe, base metals, automotive components and finished vehicles for export to Asia and finished products coming into North America from Asia.
