You enter your timely car order and CN will confirm a supply against that order. It's all done with just a few clicks of a mouse using our eBusiness tool, Car Order.

What does "confirmed" really mean?

• On a weekly basis, customers are asked to place orders no later than Wednesday 14:00 Eastern Time preceding the week for which the cars are needed for all merchandise fleet.
• You order cars via internet car order, specifying the number of cars required by mill and by day of week and required loading time,
• CN will confirm the order electronically  by Thursday noon Mountain Time for your weekly order, or next business day for orders placed after the weekly cutoff. You can subscribe to receive an email whenever CN changes the confirmation level, so you always know how many cars we think we'll be able to supply.
• Other orders are filled on a "first come, first served" basis, and CN will continue to search for available empty cars until the  train is ready to depart for your facility.
• Once empties are placed against orders, the demurrage clock starts on the appropriate Required Loading Date. Consult the CN 9000 Optional Services for more information.
