With the right connections, exporting pipe products to North America is easy. We have the power to deliver seamless transportation solutions.
The thriving oil and gas industry has created an unprecedented demand for pipe products in western Canada. CN is the only railroad providing direct access from key ports on Canada's west coast to key exploration and production points, as well as major pipeline projects in British Columbia and Alberta.
More than 8,000 kilometres of new pipeline infrastructure is planned for remote areas of western Canada. Small-diameter pipe, casing, tubing and transmission pipe are shipped daily to logistics centres for local truck delivery to drilling operation sites.
With our high-capacity rail line and network of steel distribution centres, we are able to offer you seamless shipping.
We have the equipment to transport pipe
- Multi-purpose flat cars come in lengths up to 27 metres and a capacity of 65 to 103 tonnes.
- Standard gondolas have features such as drop ends, nailable steel floors and lengths from 16 to 20 metres.
- Bulkhead cars can transport aluminum and steel products, carrying loads of 68 to 100 tonnes.
- Marine containers are 12.2 metres long with a usable cube of 67.8 cubic metres.
We connect to key ports
Starting with our high-capacity main line from key west coast port facilities, CN provides efficient access to western Canada's oil, petroleum and gas projects.
- The Port of Vancouver, a key gateway between Asia-Pacific and North American markets, is currently handling thousands of tonnes of pipe and pipe products.
- Squamish Terminals, rail-served exclusively by CN, specializes in the handling of import steel pipe products destined for North American locations.
- The Port of Prince Rupert is the site of a high-capacity container gateway. Phase 1, now completed, has an estimated capacity of 500,000 TEUs, with up to two million-TEU capacity in the future.
