We Want to Keep You Informed - CN Labour Negotiations Update
One of your main requests is that we keep you informed of policy changes and labour negotiations. This is why we want to inform you of the process for negotiations for the renewal of the TCRC-CTY collective agreements (Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Conductors, Trainpersons and Yardpersons).
The Facts
- The TCRC-CTY represents the approximately 2,700 conductors and traffic coordinators working on CN's mainline in Canada;
- The current collective agreements have been in effect since March 2007 and expired on July 22, 2010;
- After bargaining for some months, CN turned to the Minister of Labour to obtain the assistance of a conciliator in order to help the parties reach a mutually satisfactory agreement promptly. The parties are currently in conciliation until September 5, 2010, unless they jointly request an extension.
Next Steps
- September 5, 2010 – The Conciliator will report to the Minister of Labour on the status of bargaining and issue recommendations, which will be available to both parties;
- September 27, 2010 – Earliest legal strike or lockout date, although we are optimistic that we will reach an agreement before then. Nonetheless, CN is well prepared with a team of managers who are trained and ready to ensure that any potential service disruptions be as minimal as possible for our customers.
