CN's track-maintenance employees in Canada ratify four-year collective agreement
MONTREAL, Jan. 17, 2008 — CN (TSX: CNR)(NYSE: CNI) announced today the ratification of a new four-year collective agreement by members of the United Steelworkers (USW) union at CN's Canadian operations.
The agreement – providing enhancements in wages and benefits to reflect work-rule flexibilities negotiated by the parties -- applies to approximately 3,000 employees who maintain CN track infrastructure across Canada. It is effective Jan. 1, 2008.
Kim Madigan, CN vice-president of Labour Relations, said: “CN is pleased that the joint efforts of the Company and USW produced a new agreement in advance of the expiry date of the previous one on Dec. 31, 2007. The new agreement reflects our employees' endorsement of bargaining solutions that reward them for helping us find solutions that increase productivity.”
