Hillsdale Golf and County Club selected as host venue for 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open
Canada's National Women's Open Championship returns to Montreal area for first time since 2002
Montreal, Que. (Golf Canada) – CN and Golf Canada are pleased to announce that Hillsdale Golf and Country Club in Mirabel, Que. just outside of Montreal has been selected as host venue for the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open.
The event will run August 22-28, 2011 and competitors will challenge for a prize purse expected to be $2.25 million (USD).
The announcement marks the return of Canada's only stop on the LPGA Tour to the Montreal area for the first time since Meg Mallon won the 2002 Canadian Women's Open at Summerlea Golf and Country Club in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.
“In partnership with CN, we are proud to announce that Hillsdale Golf and Country Club has been selected to host the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open,” said Scott Simmons, Golf Canada's Executive Director and CEO. “Montreal is a world class city with passionate and knowledgeable golf fans as well as a tremendous track record of hosting major events,” added Simmons. “Golf fans across the region will be treated to the best women golfers in the world challenging a terrific golf course at Hillsdale for Canada's National Women's Open title.”
With the selection of Montreal as the 2011 host city, CN and tournament officials will now begin to explore a local community beneficiary for the event as part of the CN Miracle Match fundraising program. The CN Miracle Match program has raised more than $3.5 million dollars for local children's causes over the last four years leading up to and during the weeks of the CN Canadian Women's Open.
“CN is very pleased that the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open will be coming to Montreal,” said Claude Mongeau, President and CEO, CN. “Together with Golf Canada, CN is proud that we are able to bring this prestigious event to golf fans in CN communities across this country. To be in Montreal, so close to our own corporate headquarters and over 3000 of our proud CN employees, is something we are especially looking forward to. Through our CN Miracle Match Program, we look forward to raising a lot of money for charity and leaving a lasting legacy in support of children's causes in the Montreal community.”
With a history of hosting premier provincial and national golf championships, Hillsdale Golf and Country Club looks forward to the opportunity to challenge the stars of the LPGA Tour.
“Hillsdale Golf and Country Club is delighted and honored to be selected as host club and excited about the opportunity to challenge the LPGA Tour players,” said Howard Grundman, Host Club Tournament Chairman for the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open. “Hillsdale has hosted premier provincial and national golf events such as the Canadian Amateur and Mid Amateur championships as well as the CN Canadian Women's Tour since our inception in 1953. With easy access only 25 minutes from downtown Montreal, thousands of golf fans will have a great opportunity to view the LPGA stars in action.”
In addition to funds raised for children's hospitals, the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open is expected to generate an economic impact of close to $10 million for the province of Quebec including over $7 million locally in the Montreal region. The tournament's economic impact is calculated using the Sport Tourism Economic Assessment Model (STEAM) as developed by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA).
The 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open will take place August 23-29 at St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg with competitors set to challenge for a $2.25 million (USD) prize purse. The Manitoba Children's Hospital has been designated as the official charity of the 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open.
