CN and BMWED to meet, ending labour action

MONTREAL, July 20, 2006 — CN announced today that the company and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on the former GTW territory reached an agreement late Wednesday evening, July 19, 2006, to meet in the coming days. The National Mediation Board has been invited to participate in the discussions.

As such, the BMWED and its approximately 250 members (who construct, maintain, inspect and repair the tracks, right of way, and structures)agreed to take down the pickets and have returned to work today. The labour action yesterday did not affect CN's operations.

CN and the BMWED will request the court today to stay further legal proceedings.
