Community

Working alongside Aboriginal communities across the CN network, we hope to strengthen our ties, cultivate economic opportunities and set an example among our industry peers.

In 2013, CN adopted its Aboriginal Vision, which is a two-fold commitment to:

  • Develop respectful and mutually-beneficial relationships with all Aboriginal people, while ensuring service to our customers.
  • Be recognized by key stakeholders, including customers and Governments, as having a sound approach to engaging with Aboriginal Communities and having a respectful and sustainable relationship with Aboriginal people across the CN network.

We are honoured to be the winner of the Indigenous Relations – Best Practices category of the 2017 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction. This award is given to a non-Indigenous business that demonstrates outstanding achievements in Indigenous relations, including economic development, employment and training, and Indigenous community support and that is recognized by the Indigenous community as such.

CN Aboriginal Affairs’ Cultural Awareness Training program, developed in 2014 with the Aboriginal consulting firm Amik, enlightens employees on Aboriginal history, culture and developing relationships with Aboriginal communities for mutual success. Sessions were delivered to employees from the departments across our network in 2016 and the future.
