Fiona Veening, Optional Services Agent-Intermodal in Brampton, Ontario, knows that empty bellies don’t encourage student success. She volunteers at her daughters’ school in Markham, ON, preparing snacks provided by the York Region’s Food for Learning initiative.

Fiona, a second-generation railroader who joined CN in 1997, is happy to be giving back. Each week, she washes snack bins and fills them with fruit, vegetables, cheese and yogurt. Rising food costs have made fundraising more challenging.

“I’ve been active with the school for six years, and it’s been overwhelming to have CN’s support. It makes me very proud as an employee.”
