CN Wins Railway Association of Canada's Environment Award
December 3, 2010 - The Railway Association of Canada presented its 2010 Environment Award for Class I Railways to CN for its initiative in developing a walleye spawning ground at the Blanc reservoir located in La Tuque, Quebec.
The 6 kilometer track crosses through the reservoir, and is surrounded by 25 spawning grounds created by CN's Environment group to preserve the fish's reproduction areas.
Normand Pellerin, assistant vice president, Sustainability, accepted the award stating, “The results of this exemplary project have exceeded our expectations. A follow-up has confirmed that the fish use the spawning grounds and hatchery troughs, and that the vegetation has thrived. This project demonstrates CN's willingness to reduce its ecological footprint by using solutions that go beyond its legal obligations.”
