Important Shipping Instructions Changes, November 15
On Sunday, November 15, Shipping Instructions will be enhanced with the following benefits:
- Improved Product Picklist
- Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Materials Upgrade
- Harmonized System (HS) Codes Support
Improved Product Picklist
The product picklist that appears in all of your Shipping Instructions patterns, and the Product utility - where you can manage your list of saved products, have been updated with a new look and feel that includes additional product attributes plus sorting.
Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Materials Upgrade
To enhance the safety of transporting regulated commodities, Shipping Instructions will pull all known product attributes from the Dangerous Goods database that is shared by all railroads in North America. The attributes of each product will be used to pre-populate the forms and validate input, ensuring proper documentation of this important information while reducing the amount of data input on your part.
Changes include:
- Updated look and feel for all dangerous goods and hazardous materials blocks, including all product picklists and the product utility
- Product-driven dangerous goods and hazardous materials forms, that:
- Pre-populate information such as the proper shipping name, class, and UN/NA number
- Validate your input, such as Packing Group and ERAP details, based upon known attributes of the selected product
- Let you bill your shipments faster and reduce the chance of errors
Important: If you ship dangerous goods or hazardous materials, please read the on-line job aid, which includes the details of these changes.
Harmonized System (HS) Codes Support
To better align ourselves with the International shipping community, and for operational safety purposes, Shipping Instructions now accept input of Harmonized System (HS) codes. You will be able to maintain a personal list of HS codes and, optionally, enter up to 15 HS codes per shipment - in addition to the STCC (7-digit Standard Transportation Commodity Code, used by rail and motor carriers in the North American transportation industry to classify products).
Important: Starting on November 15, to improve CN's awareness of products shipped within a container or trailer, all shipping instructions submitted with STCC 4611110 : Freight All Kinds - Intermodal must be accompanied by one or more HS code.
For details of this enhancement, including instructions on how to enter HS codes, please read the on-line job aid.
