Reduce greenhouse gas emissions when you ship with CN
March 1, 2010 - At CN, we've decreased our GHG emissions per tonne/kilometre by approximately 25% since 1990. The most environmentally responsible, efficient and economical choice? Shipping by rail for the long haul and by truck for the short haul.
Benefit from Quebec's action plan on climate change
In 2007, the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) introduced a new financial aid program to reduce or avoid GHG emissions through the use of rail transportation or improved integration of transportation modes. If you have a project or transportation solution that reduces or avoids GHG emissions – with or without infrastructure expenditure – you may be eligible for a grant from the Quebec government.
-
With infrastructure expenditure:The financial aid is set at a maximum of $500 per tonne of GHG emissions reduced or avoided for the project as a whole, and cannot exceed 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $6M per project.
-
Without infrastructure expenditure:The financial aid is set at a maximum of $250 per tonne of GHG emissions reduced or avoided for the project as a whole, and cannot exceed $3M per project. Remember that when calculating emission reductions, you can include distances beyond Quebec borders, as long as the shipment either originates or terminates in Quebec.
The Minister of Transport for Quebec's (MTQ) annual budget for this program is $10M for eligible projects from 2008 to 2013. Visit the website for program details or call the Service du transport ferroviaire at 418-646-6416.
