The impending changes to AAR Rule 5(c), Circular 42-J regarding crosswise space in closed cars have been suspended.

August 30, 2010 - Please note that the impending changes to AAR Rule 5(c), Circular 42-J regarding crosswise space in closed cars have been suspended.  These changes were to reduce the maximum allowable crosswise space in a loaded closed railcar from 18 inches to 6 inches.  The detailed circular is attached below for your information.

We would like to further draw your attention to the note in the attached that the AAR committee is undergoing a review of various specific commodities to determine whether changes are required to the loading rules for these specific products.   The commodities in question are primarily in the areas of panel products, wood pulp and metals products.
