We are pleased to announce that CN is currently in the process of installing an Automated Gate System (AGS)at our Chicago Intermodal Terminal. The planned improvements will increase the overall number of lanes, and re-locate the gate entrance from 15840 West Avenue to 16800 South Center Street. This new technology will improve processing time and allow quicker access to the terminal through the automated self-serve gate stands. It will also ensure that only authorized drivers have access to our terminal.
AGS offers a number of advantages such as:
- Improved ability to record and identify damaged units
- Reduced driver delays and the ability to handle greater volumes of traffic at the gates and terminals
- Simplified gate receipts for Carters
All drivers will be required to register prior to being granted access to the Chicago yard. Registration and
access to the yard will be through a biometric scan of the drivers' finger. Registration is a one-time process
and will only take a few minutes of the drivers' time. Important to note: When the system is operational
drivers who are not registered will not be permitted to enter the terminal. AGS is expected to be fully
functional late 2010/early 2011.
The driver registration information will be collected for the unique purpose of securing access to our yards. All
data collected will be stored on CN's encrypted servers and will be kept strictly confidential.
All trucking companies with drivers requiring access to Chicago Intermodal will be requested to provide CN
with a list of drivers' names confirming them as an employee. This will help ensure that only drivers
authorized to handle our customers' freight enter our terminals. Once customers advise CN a driver no longer
works for their firm; that driver's personal information will be deleted from the CN database. CN requests to
be advised by the trucking companies of any additions or changes to their driver roster.
Construction for upgrading the gates has begun. Registration of drivers will begin in early September and
staff will be on site to assist your drivers with the registration process.
Further communication and details will be provided over the coming weeks.
