A critical part of any safety plan is knowing what to do when things go wrong. CN's Emergency Response Plan ensures that, in the event of an incident, there is an immediate, coordinated response to deal with the situation quickly, safely and effectively.
In 2009, the Dangerous Goods team:
- Conducted multiple joint audits and inspections with federal agencies to verify that dangerous commodities were being safely and securely transported by CN.
- Funded and participated in a one-week Tank Car Specialist training course at the Security and Emergency Response Training Centre (SERTC) in Pueblo, Colorado. CN invited 30 emergency responders, such as firefighters and police, from various communities throughout its network to attend the training so they could learn how to safely handle incidents involving railroad tank cars. The training was very well rated by participants.
- Reviewed CN's Emergency Response Plan with multi-stakeholder input.
- Developed an enhanced Incident Notification Process.
