Employee Performance Scorecard

The Employee Performance Scorecard (EPS) is the formal process for aligning employee performance objectives with our business plan. The one-on-one discussions help recognize individual contributions, increase employee understanding of how they impact the Plan and build more meaningful connections among employees, supervisors and the business.

In 2006, we expanded the EPS to include unionized employees, a first for Class 1 railroads in North America. The extension is part of our long term strategy for a more engaged workforce.

CN's EPS team wins a President's Award for Excellence

In 2006, the Employee Performance Scorecard (EPS) process was extended to all employees at CN to recognize their individual contributions, increase their understanding of how they impact the five guiding principles and build more meaningful connections among employees, supervisors and the business. President's Awards for Excellence

For over ten years, we have been recognizing role models in the company for their innovative ideas, dedication and commitment. Winners of the high-profile President's Awards for Excellence receive more than an award and recognition; they also receive CN stock and a trip to a sunny destination for themselves and their spouses. Communications

We have a number of award-winning communications tools to keep employees informed and up-to-date about company activities, including a company magazine that is mailed to all employees' homes, a bi-weekly electronic newsletter recognizing employee achievements, regional and other departmental publications in electronic and paper formats, a comprehensive annual Business Plan rollout with face-to-face presentations, and quarterly financial results activities featuring a variety of vehicles, among others. We also have an ePortal that allows employees to access e-mail, company news and programs from their personal computer at home.

Family Days

CN supports family-friendly events throughout the year for employees and their families across the company. Many departments organize their own activities in addition to CN-sponsored events such as family barbecues, sporting events and open houses at local landmarks.

Honouring the creative talents within

CN's Employee Photo Contest lets employees "take their best shot" for the company's annual corporate calendar. All the photographs that appear in the calendar are taken by CN employees. There is one grand prize of $1,000 and 12 prizes of $500. Winning Calendar Cover

CN's Holiday Drawing Contest celebrates the creative talents of the children and grandchildren of employees and pensioners. The winning young artist receives $1,000 and their artwork becomes CN's official holiday season greeting card that is mailed to thousands of CN customers and suppliers every year. Winning Holiday Card
