Inclusivity, diversity and tolerance are three important principles at CN. Diversity produces better business outcomes by using everyone's unique talents and perspectives to improve service and the bottom line. Managing diversity is an ongoing process at CN.
Diversity Leadership Council
We launched the Diversity Leadership Council in 2001 to educate employees on the value of diversity in the workforce, and facilitate the sharing of best practices and programs that support diversity. The Council also reviews challenges faced by diverse candidates in the company and considers tactics to remove those barriers.
Partnerships for Diversity
We continue to support a number of organizations and initiatives that encourage diversity, including:
- Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax for its Women Excellence Fund;
- The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation to promote employment opportunities for Canada's aboriginals;
- The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary for its Chinook Lodge Aboriginal Resource Centre to help aboriginal students pursue transportation studies;
- The Transcona-Springfield Education Foundation in Winnipeg for students pursuing studies in a technology field at a community college.
- Wisest at the University of Alberta for young women to gain important skills and learn about diverse career opportunities available in science and engineering.
- Assiniboine Community College – CN Scholarship for Women award.
- Southern University, Louisiana – CN partners with the university in order to recruit minority engineering students for our summer intern program.
