Adhering to the highest standards of ethical business conduct
We are committed to adhering to the highest standards in our governance practices. These practices are designed to assist the company in achieving our principal stated corporate objective, which is the enhancement of shareholder value on a long-term basis.
Highlights:
- We released an updated Code of Business Conduct in 2009 to reflect changes in our environment and to help employees preserve our corporate integrity. CN's Ombudsman will continue to provide confidential and impartial guidance to CN employees on how to resolve workplace problems or issues related to the Code.
- We have adopted numerous governance structure and process initiatives that enable vigilant governance control.
- In 2008, CN was named one of Canada's 50 Best Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights, a watchdog group that focuses on responsible business practices. Ranked companies on the Canada's Best 50 Corporate Citizens list share a positive economic impact, a supportive workplace and ethical business practices; integrity in the marketplace; environmental sustainability and strong community involvement.
- In 2007, CN ranked 3rd in Canada in The Globe and Mail's annual report on corporate governance titled, Board Games 2007. The report assesses Canadian companies for best practices including board independence, compensation practices, shareholder right issues, and disclosure.
