At CN, environmental protection is an integral part of its operational activities. CN has an environment department made up of a group of professionals with a diverse set of environmental expertise from biologists to environmental engineers to experts in site assessments. 

These specialists monitor CN's environmental performance in Canada and the US on an ongoing basis, ensuring that applicable requirements are being met and that environmental issues inside the company are properly identified and managed in accordance with Environmental Policy (PDF 38KB) environmental management program procedures. 

Environmental performance is communicated to the Corporate Sustainability Committee.  The Chief of Safety and Sustainability Officer and the Assistant Vice-President of Environment and Sustainability are responsible for communicating information on environmental issues to CN's Board of Directors, through the Environment, Safety and Security Committee of the Board.

Pertinent information is also communicated to all other CN stakeholders, including employees, authorities, communities and investors.
