CN's commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner can be seen in the important capital investments we make in our operations.

Each year we use the results from our operations and maintenance programs as well as ongoing environmental audits to plan specific capital improvements. The improvements help ensure our facilities, such as fuelling stations and wastewater and storm water treatment systems, continue to comply with the latest environmental standards. The improvements include new construction or the updating of existing systems and/or processes.

CN has also worked to leverage efficiencies in design and construction by establishing uniform standards for the fuelling and wastewater treatment systems. The standardization has enabled CN to more easily make improvements at facilities in our major centres. For example, CN has undertaken a program to upgrade our fuelling systems with a Fuel Management System (FMS) which monitors the fuelling systems remotely to ensure spill/release notification, inventory control and third-party billing.
