Community Networking Plan
The Community Networking Plan is a proactive approach for building and maintaining grassroots relationships with key communities in Canada and the United States. The plan identifies opportunities for CN to build relationships with municipal leaders through active dialogue. The goal is to allow CN to better identify and manage emerging community issues. The Community Networking Plan also provides opportunities for CN to support civic activities and those that celebrate community spirit.
Aboriginal Program
CN seeks to promote a harmonious working relationship with the many Aboriginal communities along our rights-of-way across Canada. We recognize that the unique traditions, culture and social structures of Canada's First Nations communities can be best preserved through a climate of mutual trust and understanding.
A series of policy guidelines spell out the company's commitment to dealing fairly with the many Aboriginal communities along our rail lines. CN actively encourages two-way communication, cross-cultural training, safety awareness, and conflict resolution between our employees and members of First Nations. We believe strong lines of communication help to build positive working relationships. And, working more closely with band councils can sometimes lead to business opportunities that benefit both CN and the community involved.
