Our employee volunteers
We are proud of our employees, their families and retired employees who volunteer their personal time to make their communities stronger and better places to live and work. The CN Railroaders in the Community expanded program recognizes these efforts by providing grants to the community-based charitable organizations they choose to support through their volunteer efforts. The program now includes the following:
- Employee Volunteer Grant: $1,000
- CN Family Volunteer Grant: $250
- Matched Fundraising Grant: $250 for individual and up to $1000 for a team of four (4) CN employees
- Youth Amateur Sports Volunteer Grant: $500
- Retired Employee Volunteer Grant: $500
How it works
The CN Railroaders in the Community program is simple. If you are an eligible CN employee, a family member or a retired employee who volunteers a minimum of 40 hours to an eligible charitable organization from January 1 to November 30 within a calendar year, or are participating in a recognized/sanctioned fundraising initiative, you may apply for a grant in support of the organization for which you volunteer. So while everyone's volunteer work helps their chosen charitable group to improve their community, CN's contribution will magnify their efforts with a cash donation. It's a win-win situation for everybody.

United Way and Centraide
The mission of United Way (Centraide in Quebec) is to improve lives and build community capacity. Because United Way's goals are aligned with those of CN Stronger Communities Fund, our company, employees and retirees collectively contribute more than $1 million every year to United Way and Centraide agencies across Canada and the United States.
