CN and Port of Sept-Îles win award for excellence in transportation

July 9 2010 - On May 27, CN and the Port of Sept-Îles won an award for excellence in transportation in the “freight transportation” category handed out by the Quebec association of transport and roads (AQTR) in Quebec City.

This award – highlighting efforts made to improve network performance and freight-shipping methods – was given jointly to CN and the Port of Sept-Îles for developing a railway/maritime transport hub bound for northern Quebec.

Cogema - Multiple Opportunities Under One Umbrella

The transport hub, inaugurated in November 2008, uses Cogema, a ferry owned by CN and adapted for railway transportation as well as Port of Sept-Îles' unloading, yard and intermodal infrastructures. This alternative to road transportation particularly helps to reduce traffic on Route 138 and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

As the railway hub bound for Labrador and Nouveau-Québec is accessible from anywhere in North America, the major industries in the region have an intermodal solution that allows them to expand their market access, thereby giving them a competitive edge.
