- Collecting revenues and paying bills and salaries
- Monitoring CN's financial portfolio

- Developing strategic corporate initiatives

Human Resources
The Human Resources department manages the employee portion of the business by being a value-added service provider to all the functions of the company.
People in HR are primarily responsible for:
- Recruiting, developing and promoting the best talent
- Managing LR issues
- Providing training and development to all employees
- Managing benefits, compensation and pension plans

Public Affairs manages the company's relationships with key stakeholders and the general public throughout North America to enable CN to achieve its vision.
People in Public Affairs are primarily responsible for:
- Managing CN's strategic relationships with governments at all levels and regulatory agencies
- Community relations, including the company's Community Investment Program
- External and internal communications programs and vehicles for customers and employees
Information Technology
IT's mission is to spearhead the strategic technical direction of the company, by developing, implementing and maintaining all technologies at CN. It's providing the right tool at the right time.
People working in IT are primarily responsible for:
- Deployment and integration of purchased packages such as: SAP, I2, SIEBEL, etc.
- Development, implementation and support of key operating systems
- Management of the telecommunication infrastructure and networking
- Management of the computer infrastructure
- E-Business
- End-user support
- Business intelligence (data warehouse)
- Security administration
