Meet a co-op student: Nicolas Roy Archambault

What is your academic and professional development to date?

I am currently completing my bachelor's degree in Information Technology Engineering at École de Technologie Supérieure. I previously completed a diploma in data technology. Since I'm still a student, my relevant professional experience consists of corporate internships. I did my first at Radialpoint, an Internet security firm located in Montreal, as a quality assurance analyst. My second internship was at CAE, the world leader in manufacturing flight simulators, as a C++ language programmer/analyst. I'm very happy to be working with Java and doing web development again here at CN.

What are your aspirations and expectations of your job here?

My primary goal in coming to CN was to do web development within an e-Commerce team. I aspire to a career in this cutting-edge field, so CN was just what I needed to expand my knowledge. However, I would like to chart my career towards project management or business analysis. Although information technology and the Internet remain the focus of my interests, I am also drawn to interpersonal relations.

Why did you choose CN?

In addition to producing interesting e-Commerce applications, CN seems to be a good place for a long-term career. The multitude of technologies used and the career opportunities offered at CN, combined with a dynamic and enthusiastic team, provided a great opportunity that I could not pass up. I also find it very motivating to work for a company that ensures all its employees understand the various functions and processes of the business; it allows us to better understand our work.

What were your initial impressions?

I was surprised to see how welcoming and willing the people on my team were to answer my many questions. These people have a lot of responsibilities and short deadlines, but they always took the time to help me, and I really appreciate it. I was even invited to my first after-work outing three-days after I began my internship! It all started on the right foot.

How would you describe CN to future interns?

As my third and last internship comes to an end, I must say that working at CN has been a very enriching experience. CN is a company with a long history, which makes it a special place to begin one's career. Whether it's working with cutting-edge technology, taking part in extremely complex projects, or simply acquiring recognized and highly desirable work experience, CN has everything to attract co-op students.
