Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process has been enhanced to make applying for jobs at CN even easier: it's simple, easy to follow, and you always know the status of your application throughout the process.

You will find below step-by-step explanations of the hiring process.

Note: The hiring process is different for new graduates and for interns / co-op students:

  1. Submitting your application

You must submit your application online for the position you are interested in. Submitting an application should not take more than five minutes. At the second step in the process, you should attach your résumé. We invite you to submit a copy in English and/or French. After completing these steps you will receive an automatic email reply confirming the receipt of your application.

  2. First contact

If your competencies correspond to the profile we are looking for, you will be contacted by a recruiter by telephone within the following days. The recruiter will request additional information about your plans as well as your past experience. This initial contact usually takes about ten minutes.

  3. Interview

If you move on to the next step, you will be invited to meet us in person for an interview. For the interview, there are usually two or three interviewers, including the recruiter and your future superior. This meeting lasts about one hour and a portion of it will focus on technical questions.

  4. Verifications

We will ask you to provide the names of two or three former employers that we can contact for professional references. We will also ask you to complete a document authorizing us to verify if you have a criminal record.

  5. Second interview

In certain cases, there will be a second interview. You will rarely be required to have more than two interviews unless you are being considered for several positions.

  6. Response

Once the recruiting process has been completed or a decision has been made in your respect, you will receive a response either by email or by telephone.

  7. Employment offer

If you are selected for the position, the recruiter will contact you to inform you about the conditions offered and plan your first day of work.

  8. Your résumé will be kept

If you are not selected, your résumé will be kept in our database for a period of six months and we will contact you if a new position corresponding to your profile becomes available. We invite you to visit our web site regularly to see if there is a position that interests you.
