Me

I've been an IT project manager for 15 of my 24-year CN career. During this time I've managed all types and sizes of projects, and have worked with many teams which included CN people, consultants, vendors, and external partners.

My role

Managing and delivering projects is what I do. This requires strong planning and process skills to define and execute project plans including start-up, execution, control, and close out.

Making a Difference

Managing and delivering projects brings great challenges and satisfaction. The nature of projects usually changes the way organizations do business. For example, I recently managed an Interline Pricing project for our marketing department. As part of our suite of eBusiness tools available on our website, we developed a system that allows customers to request interline prices from other Class 1 carriers based on the combined routes and goods transported. As a result, customers now receive a price quotes within 40 seconds rather than two-weeks. The underlying technology developed to provide real time interline pricing was an industry first. To be accountable and responsible of the successful delivery of such projects is very rewarding and fulfilling. I very much feel like an empowered ‘entrepreneur.'

I enjoy the variety of projects we deliver at CN. In addition to expanding my project management skills, I've also gained a solid understanding of the different departments that contribute to a successful business. My knowledge and experience grows with every project I deliver, as no two projects are ever alike. To me, that's what makes project management so fascinating and rewarding - and I can't think of a better place to develop my career!
