By leveraging our extensive glass, copper and microwave network, CN is developing multimedia capability across all of its major work centres using its Quality of Service (QOS-enabled) IP backbone.
This year's deployment of VoIP (Voice over IP) for CN's decentralized Customer Service Centre will be followed by the development and rollout of video capability. CN intends to consolidate existing diverse video monitoring systems, recuperating both bandwidth and cost, and providing full network penetration.
In addition, CN will add videoconferencing and computer-based and instructor-led training capabilities to remote locations, along with ‘over-the-shoulder' and remote presence capability. A near-term project in the works will also provide emergency ad-hoc wireless network with satellite uplink for voice, video and data on remote track.
