1. CN is a solid, stable and growing company

Since our privatization in 1995, CN has transformed itself from a crown corporation into a highly profitable global supplier, with revenues in excess of $7.7-billion, annual profits of $2-billion, $24-billion in assets and a 10-year growth in share price of over 1,200 per cent.

We are the only rail network on the North American continent to connect three coasts – the Pacific, the Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico. Through a series of marketing alliances, interline agreements, co-production arrangements and routing protocols, CN customers have access to all three NAFTA nations.

More recently, through a series of other strategic initiatives, customers now have enhanced access to an expanding range of international opportunities in an increasingly global marketplace. And we intend to continue growing and improving.

2. We develop and support a variety of technology and information systems

Our in-house team, consisting of some 700 of the best and brightest, develops and supports some of the best technology and information systems in the industry. We have over 180 different technologies in our portfolio, related to eBusiness, Web, IT Security, Mobile, Agile & Rapid Application Development, SAP & Business Warehouse, Application/System Architecture, Business Process Reengineering, Data Warehousing & Mining, Telecommunications/Network Engineering, Wireless/WiMax/ WiFi/VoIP, Technology Integration, along with System and Database Administration, just to name a few.

3. We are a leading SAP shop

CN's first SAP implementation went live in 1998. Today we have leveraged the enterprise solution across more business processes than any other railroad in the world to manage our financial, material, people, mobile, mechanical, engineering and fixed assets. Throughout the process we've retired more than 100 legacy systems, simplified our infrastructure, and created a robust, mid-range technology architecture.

As SAP's ‘Lighthouse Account' for freight railways, we are currently working together on a variety of initiatives to drive greater efficiencies throughout our operations. This includes optimizing performance in areas such as Precision Engineering (providing mobile applications for inspection and maintenance of network assets) and optimizing revenue and customer management processes, to name a few.

4. You'll have a bright, unlimited future

CN's business strategy is guided by five core principles: providing good service, controlling costs, focusing on asset utilization, committing to safety, and developing people. Using this model, we continue to innovate to improve our products, along with our ability to sell them and support our customers.

Along the way, we'll continue to use technology to improve our operation and to improve our performance. We're proud and confident in the abilities of our in-house technology team to take CN to where it wants to be – and that's to become the best transportation company in the world.

5. Because we care

Technology is important, and we believe ours leads the industry. But technology and systems are just tools. The real drivers of future success are the passion, skills and dedication of our people.
